Cervical and Vaginal Ecology-Impact on Health and Reproduction
December 12-14
th, 2007, Lund, Sweden

GENERAL INFORMATION

Sweden is located in the northern part of Europe with an area of about 450,000 sq.km, ranging 1.574 km from north to south and with a majestic coastline of no less than 2.700 km reaching from the Finnish border in the northeast to the Norwegian in the southeast.

Sweden has roughly the size of California or Spain and twice that of the United Kingdom and the third largest in Western Europe. Although Sweden is the largest country among the Nordic countries, there is only about nine million inhabitants so there is plenty of space for everyone! In the far south is Skåne, Sweden’s richest farming region, with endless plains, gently rolling hills, long sandy beaches, soughing groves and blazing meadows.

Lund is a mixture of cultures and education. Lund is situated in the attractive and expansive Öresund region. Here, the university, science-park, multicultural atmosphere and historical surroundings make up a unique combination.

The Danish capital Copenhagen is less than half an hour away and connected to Malmö by a mighty bridge which opened in 2000.  Malmö is situated only 20 minutes by train from Copenhagen Airport in Denmark.

The Copenhagen (Kastrup) airport is connected to Malmö by the Øresund Bridge and trains run around the clock between Malmö Central Station and the airport. Yet you are close to beautiful beaches and areas of unspoiled nature in which you can enjoy all the benefits of open-air life.

Lund university was founded in 1666 there had already been a rich tradition of knowledge in Lund. As long ago as the year 1085, a Cathedral School for the education of priests was started. Lund Univeristy is the largest univeristy in Scandinavia with appr. 35 000 students. About 6 000 people are employed by the University. You´ll also find all the charm of a small town, side by side with the enticements and comforts of a major city.  and other sights. Theatres, music and lectures, inviting restaurants and cafés,can all be found within walking distance in Lund´s city centre.

Lund’s cathedral is one of main attractions of the city founded about 1080 A.D. In 1145 high alter was inaugurated. It is built in Romanesque style and the crypt is the oldest part of the church where Finn the Giant can be seen. A medieval astronomical clock is one of the special features and can be heard playing every day at noon and at 3.00 p.m.

The Museum of Sketches was founded in 1934 with collections of sketches and models for public works of art by Matisse, Léger, Moore and others. Kulturen is the largest museum in Skåne and lies in the heart of Lund. It features some thirty historical buildings and sixteen permanent exhibitions.

Travelling to Lund

When arriving to Copenhagen airport (operating services to 135 cities world-wide), the easiest way to go to Lund is to take a train. Trains depart directly from the airport every 20 minutes in daytime and hourly during nights. The trip takes 20 minutes to Malmö central railway station (passing “svågertorp, Malmö south”, which is the first stop after having passed the Øresund bridge from Copenhagen airport).

Tickets are preferably bought at the airport, (appr. 10€/13$/one way). If bought on the train there are additional costs. Some trains continue directly to Lund. That is, if travelling by some trains you will have to change to a commuter train at Malmö central station.
You may ask the conductor on the train. If you are on a trains that goes directly to Lund, you should get seated in the last wagons of the train. Otherwise, you will go back to Copenhagen. If you take the commuter train, there will be several stops before Lund.
